tumova koca nova 2018Mountain hut Tumova koca na Slavniku, is located close below the peak of Slavnik (1082 m), which is the last north 100-metres peak of ÄŒičarija, which descends to Podgorski Kras on the southwest, and to the Matarija Valey Matarsko podolje.

SHORT HISTORY

Mountain hut Tumova koca na Slavniku, is named by Dr. Henrik Tumi (1858-1935) famous Slovenian climber, mountaineering ideologist, botanist, a politician and a national ideologist.

The idea of ​​building Mountain hut on Slavnik, was accepted on initial annual general meeting PD Koper in 1949. They started with construction in 1955. Lodge was opened solemnly on 7 July 1957. In the years between 1988 and 1994, the Mountain hut, was thoroughly renovated. They built extension for a restroom, larger entrance hall, they protected facade with metallic coating, they renovated all installations, facilities and equipment. They increased also a dining room.

MOUNTAIN HUT TODAY

Mountain hut Tumova koca na Slavniku, is open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, for groups is also open during the week by previous reservation. In the restaurant area there are 70 seats. They have also rooms with 8 beds, there are 20 communal beds. The Mountain hut also have:

THE VIEW

From Slavnik there is an extensive view. Towards the northeast the view reaches to the Kamnik Alps, and before that it stops on Nanos and Vremščica and on the nearby Brkini and the Matarija Valley (Matarsko podolje), which spreads between Brkini and Slavnik; towards the east one can see Javorniki, Trojica and Snežnik, the peaks in Gorski Kotar with Risnjak and Snježnik; from the east to the south there is the Kvarner Bay (Kvarnerski zaliv) on the horizon, and before it Planik, Učka and a vast hilly landscape of ÄŒičarija with Kojnik and Žbevnica; on the south there is the view on  Istria over ÄŒičarija, and towards the west one can see the coast of the Adriatic Sea with Umag, Piran, Koper, Trst, Tržič and if the weather is good all the way to  Venice; from the west to the north one can see the Dolomites, the Carnolian Alps (Karnijske Alpe), the Ziljske Alps, the Julian Alps with Triglav and the  Karavanke in the distance, and in front of them one can see the extensive   Trnovski gozd, the hills between the  Vipava Valley and Karst with Trstelje and the  Karst Hills (Kraško gričevje).
