In the idyllic Brda village Šmartno, is located San Martin Hotel, Goriska Brda, which is a result of devotion and courage of the spouses Vesna and Bogdan two enterprising individuals, in love with the Brda landscape.
Once, there was an Italian and then Yugoslavian school, until it was abandoned and the building started to fall apart. Vesna and Bogdan saw more than a school falling apart. They are put San Martin on its feet, which is not only a hotel but a life project and their second home.
San Martin Hotel, Goriska Brda, is not fused with the environment and interwoven with nature only apparently, but the whole construction and details are well-conceived and in accordance with the environmental standards. The hotel is heated and cooled down with the heat pump or wood chips furnace, while there is a double water distribution system, providing for the rational and smart waste water management.
The hotel offers altogether 20 thoughtfully distributed rooms with their own bathrooms, a restaurant and a conference room. There is also a wellness centre available to guests. It includes a bio-herbal Finnish sauna, a salt room and a private terrace with a wonderful view. The view from the hotel terrace is also very special. On one side, there is an old town core of Šmartno with a medieval fortress and, on the other side, there are Brda hills covered with vineyards and olive plantations.

San Martin Restaurant
With its view and a cozy and warm atmosphere, the San Martin Restaurant is certainly the heart of the entire hotel. It is a spot for socializing and friendly chatting as well as for discovering the Brda gastronomic offer, while drinking a glass of good wine.
The restaurant cuisine is based on the local and fresh ingredients. In fact, vegetables and herbs grow on the garden, located right below the hotel. Next to the garden, there is a plantation of 150 olive trees. These have been planted with an environment-friendly biodynamic method.
Bogdan and Vesna are aware of the importance of fresh and organic ingredients and, therefore, they try to produce as many as possible of them on their own or they look for high-quality domestic products at the nearest farms. Fresh and tender meat by the local butcher, fruit by the local farmer or fresh-caught fish by reliable fishermen.
Wine boom
In the recent years, the Goriška Brda Hills have undergone a real wine boom, and the local wines have been included on the list of the best wines in Slovenia as well as abroad. The quality of Brda wines has been known to the wine connoisseurs for a long time. A convenient geographical position, diverse climate and a unique composition of the Brda soil give exceptional characteristics to wine.
On the list of the top-quality wines, we can find internationally recognized and prized types of wine, such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but typical Brda wines are produced from Rumena Rebula (ita. Ribolla Gialla), Pinela, Barbera or Refošk (ital. Refosco), native wine grape varieties, who have been growing here for hundreds of years.
Conference room
The hotel conference room can host up to 80 people and it is equipped with the audio-video system.
Wellness
The wellness programme includes a bio-herbal Finnish sauna, a salt room and a private terrace with a view. The use of wellness is individual and provides for total privacy to our guests.
